# Overview

**Stay connected to every original product after the sale.**

Optivalux gives each product you make a verifiable identity that continues through ownership, gifting, resale and service. It can become your **post-sale product infrastructure**: a product-level relationship with each item after it leaves your channels.

> **Current stage:** Optivalux is preparing its first physical pilot and is looking for design partners. The protocol is implemented; brand applications are not yet connected and nothing is live on a public network. See [Current Stage](/getting-started/current-stage.md) and [Pilot Program](/for-brands/pilot-program.md).

## What it provides

**Product-level identity.** Identity for the individual item, not only the SKU or batch. Each product has its own certificate, authenticator and history. See [Product Identity](/product/product-identity.md).

**Authenticity evidence.** A registered authenticator in each product lets anyone check it against the identity you registered, and see precisely what was verified and when. Evidence, not claims. See [Authenticity Evidence](/product/authenticity-evidence.md).

**Certificate standing you manage.** You register products and issue their certificates. You manage their standing through controlled processes: a suspension records a concern while it is investigated and can be lifted once resolved; voiding, under the protocol's safeguards, permanently ends a certificate's good standing. Standing never changes who owns the product, and its history stays visible. See [Product Certificates](/product/product-certificates.md).

**Ownership continuity.** Ownership moves with the physical item through owner-authorized transfer, so the record survives gifting, resale and years of ownership. See [Ownership & Transfer](/product/ownership-and-transfer.md).

**Resale trust.** Buyers and platforms can check the product and its certificate standing before a sale, rather than relying on photos and a seller's word.

**Provenance evidence.** A dated record of registration, claims, transfers and standing changes that can support your brand-protection work. See [Provenance](/product/provenance.md).

**A lifecycle relationship.** A foundation for connecting service, repair and (in future) warranty information to the specific product. See [Lifecycle Value](/for-brands/lifecycle-value.md).

## You stay the issuer

Your organisation holds distinct roles with different powers, so that one compromised credential cannot do lasting harm:

* **Operators** register products within batch limits you set. They cannot suspend, void or change ownership.
* **Brand administration** manages batches, operators and routine suspensions.
* **A brand security role**, controlled separately from day-to-day administration, is required for sensitive actions: lifting suspensions, voiding owned certificates, authorizing brand-assisted recovery and enabling who may authorize claims.

No brand role can transfer an owned product to someone else. See [Ownership & Control](/trust/ownership-and-control.md).

## Digital Product Passport readiness (direction)

Optivalux maintains a product-level record designed with Digital Product Passport-style data in mind. This is a **direction, not a compliance claim**:

* Optivalux is not a full Digital Product Passport implementation today.
* Regulatory fit depends on product category and market and must be assessed case by case.
* Optivalux does not replace your legal, regulatory or trademark processes.

## Precise language, by design

Optivalux provides verifiable evidence: a registered authenticator answered correctly, a certificate is active, ownership is recorded. It does not promise that a product can never be copied, and it does not replace your legal or regulatory processes. See [Claims & Limitations](/trust/claims-and-limitations.md).

## Next steps

* [Lifecycle Value](/for-brands/lifecycle-value.md): where Optivalux adds value from manufacture to long-term provenance.
* [Pilot Program](/for-brands/pilot-program.md): how a controlled pilot works.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.optivalux.com/for-brands/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
